While Jordin Spark’s natural hair journey “goes on and on,” she’s just been named the latest brand ambassador for popular beauty brand Cantu Beauty and is enjoying a full circle moment.
The 32-year-old “No Air” singer, who has been using its hair care products since she was a child, spoke to the crowd about her love for the brand, which not only celebrates women of color and their unique curls, but also gives back to the black and brown community.
“Everything they stand for really speaks to me. In addition to their amazing curly, coily, wavy and straight products (one of her favorites: Cantu Beauty’s Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream), they wanted to do more than just be a brand selling products,” Sparks said. “They want to uplift the next generation of young women in our community, and anything I can get involved in to help encourage women is something I want to do.”
Sparks continues, “I remember hearing the saying, ‘You have two hands, one to help yourself and one to help others.’ I’ve always done that for a living,” she continued. “For me, if I can’t use it to do something better in the world, to add beauty or encouragement and to be able to lift others up, then what is this platform that I have?”

“I’ve always loved my curls because you can have the best of both worlds. We can have our curls and they can be wild and free, but the next day we can turn around and have the most beautiful perm ever,” the singer said. “And I think that’s really beautiful because it shows all the ways that we can be and all the things that we can represent.”
Sparks added that her versatile curls “go with the flow. I love them. I never know what I’m going to get. It keeps me on my toes. My hair is free, it’s fun, and that’s the way I feel inside.”

Sparks shared that part of keeping her hair healthy includes allowing it time to breathe and leaving it alone after often dealing with various work obligations, admitting that her curls are “still recovering and totally need some TLC” stars after competing in Season 31 of Dancing with.
“When I look in the mirror, my curls are healthy and shiny and bouncy, which makes me feel like everything is done and reflects what’s going on inside,” Sparks explained. “Because deep down I’m wild, I’m free and I’m healthy, and if my hair reflects that, it makes me smile a little bigger in the mirror.”
The “Stop That Feeling” singer has broken out of her hair care routine before after finding products to keep her curls in the best shape. But she jokes that she may seek additional advice from some of her friends with “gorgeous” hair.
In the meantime, Sparks is teaching her and husband Dana Isaiah’s 4-year-old son, Dana Isaiah Jr. (aka DJ), to maintain a hair care regimen. She talks at length about her baby boy’s curly hair and how he reminds her to take care of it.
“DJ loves his hair, we haven’t cut it since he was born and he’s very adamant about not wanting to cut it,” Sparks told the crowd, noting that she proudly teaches him about his tight curl pattern, protective style and cap.
“He absolutely loves his hair now. Once he becomes more independent and has to start doing it on his own, I’m sure there will be a little bit of frustration, but I’ve been on his side so I’ll be able to help him walk through it,” the musician continued. “But he loves his curls, he loves his hair. So I’m very, very grateful that he already knows how important this is.”
