I’m not a fan of eggnog, but Eggo’s creamy “eggnog” gets me in the holiday spirit. Here’s how to drink it and how to serve it.

Eggo Frozen Waffles are no longer just for breakfast. This nostalgic childhood treat is perfect for savory dishes, from a simple chicken and waffle dinner to a bread substitute in an avocado toast breakfast.

Just ask Joshua Weaver, sous chef at Tennessee destination Blackberry Hill. Weaver’s latest mission is to create a series of Eggo waffle-based meals – and his Chicken Waffle Pie caught my eye …… delighted my taste buds.

“The inspiration for making the pies came from a few different directions,” Weaver told Yahoo Lifestyle. “I wanted to make a comforting dish: once you take that first bite, you can’t help but smile.”

He added, “Another inspiration was to create it by twisting it, using an Eggo waffle crust on top of the pie instead of the usual pie crust. It’s the most widely known and loved pie, but with a twist.”

But innovative uses for waffles aren’t all Eggo is bringing to the table this holiday season. The brand has partnered with Tennessee-based Sugarlands Distilling Company to introduce a new style of everyone’s favorite Christmas drink – eggnog. Yes, that’s right, you can now enjoy your waffles and …… can drink them too.

Eggo-Nog is an “Appalachian sip cream” that pays homage to the classic Eggo waffle we all know and love. “The “sipping cream” is a moonshine drink that resembles a sweet cream liqueur – like an American version of Irish whiskey. ” distinction because it is produced in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee.

But why mix waffles and eggnog? Joe Beauprez, Eggo’s marketing director, said the product was created in response to parents’ love of enjoying Eggos in a …… more adult way.

“We’re seeing a trend emerging where parents are bringing our thick and fluffy waffles (a Belgian-style waffle) into their ‘me time,'” he told Yahoo Lifestyle, “with a scoop of ice cream or some other topping, we thought what else can we do? What can we do for our parents?”

So how does Eggo-Nog taste? Greg Eidam, Sugarlands’ master distiller, says he and his team took the “very basic” flavors of regular eggnog and “added [their] own flavors.”

I had the opportunity to taste the waffle drink in a cocktail and on its own. As someone who doesn’t like regular eggnog, I really like the Eggo-Nog, which is light, slightly buttery and very easy to drink. My favorite cocktail is Sugarlands’ Christmas Apple because it combines a smooth, buttery Eggo-Nog with their Apple Pie Moonshine and a dash of cinnamon. It really puts me in the holiday spirit.

In fact, the cocktail made with Eggo-Nog paired perfectly with Weaver’s chicken tart, so I asked the chef to share how he made it.

“There are a lot of rules to cooking, but there’s always some wiggle room,” he says. “Chicken enchiladas are one of those dishes that have wiggle room. For example, adding different vegetables to the mixture or swapping out the standard pie crust with Eggo waffles.”

Personally, I like to use Eggo waffles instead of the standard pot pie crust. It gives a hint of sweetness to the dish. It was so subtle that it didn’t end up fighting against the saltiness. Instead, it made the whole dish unique, rather than a traditional flavor pairing.

“At first glance, I thought it would be very difficult to incorporate Eggo waffles into dinner,” Weaver shares. “It seemed really limited. After sitting down and thinking hard about the waffle itself, I realized it’s very versatile. I just needed to get creative.”
